LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Slam Diáspora, currently the only national in-Spanish poetry slam series in the U.S., sends two Los Angeles Chicanx Poets to Participate in Poetry Slams in Mexico and Brazil.
Diosa Xochiquetzalcóatl and Tezozomoc never imagined they would be traveling internationally to represent the Chicanx literary community in international poetry slams. On August 23rd, however, their poems won Slam Diáspora's Grand Slam Prizes: the chance to take their poetry to Brazil and Mexico.
On December 8th, 2022, Diosa Xochiquetzalcoatl, a proud Chicana, will be representing Slam Diáspora in the Abya Yala Copa América de Poetry Slam in Río de Janeiro, Brazil.
Diosa Xochiquetzalcóatl, or Diosa X for short, is a multilingual and multidimensional Xicana, Indigenous, MeXicana poetiza. She has been published in literary journals, magazines, and several anthologies in both English and Spanish, as well as featured, presented, and performed nationally and internationally. Diosa X is the author of two multilingual poetry collections: A Church of My Own (2021) and Hechizera: Sus Sultry Spells (2022).
