SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 13, 2025 ~ After an extensive search, The International School of San Francisco has announced the appointment of Eric Thuau as its next Head of School. Thuau will begin his tenure on July 1, 2026, bringing with him over twenty-five years of head leadership experience in independent and international schools.
Thuau has had a distinguished career in education, serving as Head of School at four international schools in the United States and abroad. Currently, he is leading the French American School of Puget Sound, where he has utilized his operational and financial expertise to increase enrollment, enhance fundraising efforts, and adapt to changing market conditions. Prior to this role, Thuau excelled as Head of School at the Austin International School, where he fostered a strong culture of philanthropy and established valuable partnerships with educational institutions. Under his leadership, student enrollment reached full capacity.
With a global perspective on education, Thuau has also led international schools in Turkey and Cape Verde. In these roles, he developed innovative trilingual educational programs and secured essential accreditations. Thuau holds a Bachelor of Education from the University Institute of Education in Montigny-les-Metz, France. He has also pursued various leadership and management certifications, including a recent program at the University of Laval in Canada.

In recognition of his contributions to education, Thuau was honored with the title of Knight in the Order of the French Academic Palms by the French Ministry for National Education.
The Board Chair at The International School of San Francisco, Brian Keil expressed excitement about Thuau's appointment stating that "this is an exciting time for our school." Keil described Thuau as a strategic and mission-driven leader who is ready to guide the school into its next chapter.
Thuau himself expressed gratitude for being named as the next Head of School at The International School of San Francisco. He stated that he feels a profound sense of excitement and purpose as he looks ahead to his new role. Thuau is confident that the school is a place where he will continue to grow, thrive, and contribute with heart and intention.
The current Head of School, Melinda Bihn, Ed.D., will complete her tenure in June 2026. Keil expressed deep gratitude for Bihn's leadership and stated that her final year will be one of continued momentum as she advances key initiatives and ensures a smooth transition for Thuau and the entire community.
The International School of San Francisco is eagerly anticipating Thuau's arrival and the exciting opportunities his leadership will bring to students, faculty, staff, and the broader school community.
