LOS ANGELES, Aug. 15, 2024 ~ The California Association of Realtors (C.A.R.) has recently announced the winners of its inaugural Champions of Home Impact Awards. These awards recognize California Realtors who have made a significant impact on their communities through volunteer efforts. The winners, Kay Wilson-Bolton and two honorees, Elizabeth Uribe and Mary Jane Cambria, will be recognized at C.A.R.'s annual REimagine! Conference & Expo in Long Beach, California on September 25th.
C.A.R. President Melanie Barker expressed her admiration for the winners and honorees, stating that their extraordinary efforts and unwavering compassion have profoundly impacted their communities. She commended them for setting a remarkable example with their dedication to helping others.
Kay Wilson-Bolton was named this year's winner for her outstanding contributions to her community. For the past 15 years, she has been the acting director and CFO of Spirit of Santa Paula, a homelessness services organization. Her journey began in 2008 when she discovered that a homeless man had died in a local church on Christmas Eve. This prompted her to start a hot meal program with a few volunteers, which has now grown to serve 600 meals per week.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Wilson-Bolton and her team at Spirit of Santa Paula started a mega-food pantry that serves thousands of people each month. She also worked tirelessly to develop partnerships and secure funding for various programs such as a family shelter, case management services, food rescue, and food pantry programs. Thanks to her efforts, the organization now rescues 2 million pounds of food annually.
Wilson-Bolton's hard work also paid off when she secured a $1.5 million grant from the state of California to build a new wing on the shelter. This new addition will include offices, classrooms, case management services, additional bathrooms and showers. As part of her recognition as the winner of the Champions of Home Impact Award, Spirit of Santa Paula will receive a $5,000 donation.
In addition to Wilson-Bolton, two honorees will also be recognized for their contributions to their communities. Elizabeth Uribe, a board member of The Living Room, a transitional housing and care center for women and children in Sonoma County, will receive a $1,000 donation for the organization. For over 12 years, Uribe has helped The Living Room raise more than $870,000 and oversaw renovations that allowed the organization to expand from housing six women to 34 women and their children.
