OXNARD, Calif. - Californer -- The Workforce Development Board of Ventura County (WDBVC) is proud to announce the launch of Professional Empowerment and Employment Resources (PEER) Up, a groundbreaking new program designed to close the employment and wage gaps for individuals with disabilities in Ventura County. PEER Up is a workforce development initiative that provides paid work experience, mentorship, and inclusive job connections to help participants build confidence and thrive in today's workforce.
The PEER Up program redefines how individuals with disabilities find meaningful careers by offering a comprehensive and supportive pathway to success. Participants receive 130 hours of paid work at a rate of $20 per hour, gaining real-world experience in high-demand industries. The program also offers one-on-one mentorship from peers with lived experience, providing a unique level of understanding and support.
"We are committed to creating a fair and accessible workforce for all Ventura County residents," said Rebecca Evans, Executive Director of the WDBVC. "PEER Up is not just a job program, it's a path to empowerment. Through paid work experience, peer mentorship, and connections with employers who value their strengths, we are giving individuals with disabilities the tools they need to achieve their career goals and contribute to our local economy."
