SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Californer -- Alten Construction (https://www.altenconstruction.com/), a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, recently began construction on a new 20,000-square-foot STEAM building for San Rafael High School.
Located on the current high school campus at 150 3rd Street, the new science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics building will include multiple classrooms, laboratories and a courtyard.
"We are pleased to see construction underway on this important project for our students that will offer state-of-the-art classes and facilities for San Rafael High School," said Dan Zaich, senior director – capital improvements, sustainable design and construction for San Rafael Schools. The design will feature several outdoor courtyards, state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories with facilities for optimal student advancement. The architect for the $16.25 million project is HY Architects.
Alten Construction began demolition in March and is currently working on foundation work, including drilling piers, installing rebar cages, pouring concrete and conducting sonic testing on the piers for quality assurance purposes. The superstructure is expected to be complete this summer, with the exterior shell complete by the end of 2021. The entire project is estimated to be ready for students in September 2022.
