RICHMOND, Calif. - Californer -- Alten Construction, a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, is celebrating its 25-year anniversary of quality construction projects and service to the California community.
The local, family-owned company started 25 years ago when Bob Alten and Shannon Alten began Alten Construction with humble beginnings and big challenges. The commercial construction company won its first bid to renovate 23 bathrooms for Laney and Merritt College in Oakland, Calif.
Today, the company has annual revenues of more than $110 million, and the firm employs more than 100 – many who have been with the company for more than 15 years. The Altens count the longevity of employees as one of the company's biggest accomplishments. Since its founding, Alten Construction has completed approximately 200 projects.
"We're a growing company, but our reputation for quality and high standards in the industry will always stay the same," said Bob Alten, president and chief executive officer of Alten Construction. "Alten Construction's history is filled with significant moments that drove us forward as a company and contributed to our current success. We are proud of our homegrown history but would not be here without the hard work, dedication and support of our amazing employees and other essential business partners. We are truly thankful for all of the support."

Since the beginning, many Alten Construction projects have been public education buildings, from elementary schools to colleges. Some of the construction firm's projects include the historic Napa County Courthouse, San Francisco Fire Station No. 5, professional-quality theater at Palo Alto High School, historic Goodman Library, Mission Dolores Park renovation, City of San Rafael Public Safety Center, Menlo-Atherton High School and many others.
"We are builders, and we really do take pride in what we build and have a great sense of accomplishment knowing we are leaving a legacy in this wonderful community that we call home," said Alten. "Love what you do, and you will be successful."
In addition to building better schools, the couple believes it is important to be active in the community that their team has helped build. Its employees actively give back to worthy causes within regional neighborhoods and towns.
Alten Construction has donated to many worthwhile causes, such as the Oakland Ed Fund, Rebuilding Together Oakland (https://www.rtoakland.org/) to help rehabilitate neighborhoods by repairing and improving the homes of some of the most vulnerable citizens and Whistlestop (https://www.whistlestop.org/), which provides transportation, educational and social activities and affordable meals to seniors.
