San Diego author Michael Harlow offers his ocean adventure thriller free for two days as real-world concerns about warming seas and harmful algal blooms echo themes explored in the novel

SAN DIEGO - Californer -- As scientists track marine heatwaves and conditions favorable to harmful algal blooms along the West Coast, the ocean crisis at the center of Blue Planet – Red Tide feels especially timely.

For two days only — August 27 and 28 — the Kindle edition of Blue Planet – Red Tide will be FREE on Amazon.

NOAA reported in August that scientists are tracking two large marine heatwaves in the Northeast Pacific, including one near central and Southern California. NOAA also noted a higher-than-usual likelihood of harmful algal blooms and domoic acid production in Southern California waters.

NOAA further reported that 37% of the global ocean experienced marine heatwave conditions in July 2026, the second-highest July coverage in its record dating to 1991.

Against that real-world backdrop, Blue Planet – Red Tide asks:

What happens when something begins changing in the ocean faster than humanity can understand — or stop — it?

"Blue Planet – Red Tide is fiction, but it grew out of my lifelong connection to the ocean," Harlow said. "The more time you spend sailing, diving and exploring the natural world, the more you realize how interconnected everything is."

An Ocean Thriller Rooted in Real Adventure

Blue Planet – Red Tide draws from Harlow's decades of experience sailing, scuba diving, filmmaking and exploring remote coastal and island environments.

Ocean explorer and archaeologist James P. Delgado, PhD described the novel as:

"A provocative and chair-grabbing adventure into the depths of the ocean."

FREE ON AMAZON — AUGUST 27 & 28 ONLY
