Breaking Bread Again: A Fundraiser for the Children of Gaza

Local Initiative Turns the Symbol of Bread Into Hope on World Bread Day, October 16

Hercules, CA — October 2, 2025 — This World Bread Day, October 16, a grassroots initiative called "Breaking Bread Again" is inviting communities to turn the act of sharing bread into a powerful symbol of compassion and relief for children in Gaza.

The fundraiser, launched on GoFundMe, will directly benefit Save the Children, one of the world's leading organizations providing emergency food, clean water, and medical aid to children living through conflict and hardship.

"For me, bread is more than food—it's a symbol of care, patience, and community," said Jojo Soriano, a sourdough baker enthusiast who picked up the skill during covid, and who founded the campaign. "During the pandemic, I learned to bake sourdough, and that experience showed me how bread connects us. Pita bread especially is meaningful—it's a staple shared by both Palestinians and Israelis. My hope is that one day, they'll sit down and break bread together again in peace."

The campaign is paired with an original theme song, also titled "Breaking Bread Again," which was created to inspire hope and remind people of the resilience of children.

Why It Matters:
  • Children in Gaza face extreme shortages of food, clean water, and medical care.
  • Every donation goes directly to Save the Children, ensuring resources reach the most vulnerable.
  • The fundraiser's first goal is to raise $1,600, with a vision of growing step by step into a larger organic effort.

How to Help:
  1. Donate directly via GoFundMe: Donate to Save the Children Today
  2. Share the campaign on social media with the hashtag #BreakingBreadAgain.
  3. Bake bread at home or with your community and dedicate it to children who need it most.

"Even the smallest act—baking bread, sharing bread, or giving what you can—becomes a lifeline when multiplied by a community," Soriano added.
