~ In a move to enhance public safety and combat crime, California has deployed 125 new California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers across the state. These officers were sworn in after successfully completing an intense 26-week training program at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento.
Governor Gavin Newsom congratulated the cadets on their graduation and commended their leadership in stepping up to serve communities across California. He stated, "From combating crime to responding to crises like the LA fires, the men and women of the CHP represent the best of us."
The training program at the CHP Academy covers various areas such as traffic enforcement, collision investigation, defensive tactics, firearms proficiency, and emergency vehicle operations. It also emphasizes legal responsibilities, communication skills, and ethical conduct to ensure that cadets are well-prepared for their role in protecting and serving California's communities.
This deployment of new officers is part of Governor Newsom's commitment to enhancing public safety in the state. In November 2024, California successfully met its multi-year recruitment goal of adding 1,000 new officers to the CHP force. Since 2019, there has been a significant increase in investments in law enforcement resources and personnel, supporting local governments in hiring more police officers and strengthening public safety measures.
