~ SACRAMENTO - Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several new appointments to the Health Workforce Education and Training Council. These appointments were made on July 30, 2024.

Patrick Brennan, a resident of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the council. Brennan currently serves as the Director of Policy and Programs at the UCLA School of Education & Information Studies. He is also involved in various organizations such as the UCSF Dyslexia Center Board of Directors and The Diverse Learners Coalition. Additionally, he is a co-founder and member of the Advisory Board of the California Institute on Law, Neuroscience and Education at UC Law San Francisco. Brennan holds a Master of Business degree in Finance from the University of North Carolina's Kenan-Flagler School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Wake Forest University. His appointment does not require Senate confirmation and he will receive a compensation of $25 per diem. Brennan is affiliated with the Democratic party.

Another appointment to the council is Kristina Lawson, who resides in Walnut Creek. Lawson currently serves as the Managing Partner at Hanson Bridgett LLP and has been a Partner there since 2017. She previously worked at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP and Miller Starr Regalia. In addition to her legal career, Lawson was also a member of the Walnut Creek City Council from 2010 to 2014, serving as Mayor in 2014. She is currently President of the Medical Board of California, where she has been a member since 2015 and served as President from 2020 to 2023. Lawson holds a Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Arizona. Like Brennan, her appointment does not require Senate confirmation and she will receive a compensation of $25 per diem. Lawson is also affiliated with the Democratic party.

In other news, Governor Newsom has also announced the appointment of Julianna Vignalats as the Chief Operating Officer at the California Department of Social Services. Vignalats, a resident of Roseville, has been serving as the Acting Chief Operating Officer at the department. She brings with her a wealth of experience in this field and will continue to lead the department in its efforts to improve social services in California.

Furthermore, California is celebrating a major milestone with its Clean California initiative. This program has created over 18,000 jobs and has successfully hauled away more than 2.6 million cubic yards of litter from communities across the state. In Kern County, Governor Newsom declared a state of emergency due to the Borel Fire and met with first responders to discuss the ongoing efforts to contain and control the fire.
