DPPA-Compliant API Fulfilled by Licensed Private Investigator Now Available to Developers Nationwide
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Californer -- License Plate Owner, a DPPA-compliant vehicle records lookup service operated by a licensed California private investigator (CA PI #27617), announces the launch of its License Plate Owner Lookup API on two leading developer platforms — RapidAPI and the Postman Public API Network.
A Legal Alternative to Scraped Data
Most license plate lookup tools available to developers rely on scraped databases, stale records, or illegal access methods. License Plate Owner takes a different approach — every lookup is manually fulfilled by a licensed private investigator operating under the Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA). Developers get compliant, reliable registered owner data without the legal exposure that comes with scraper-based tools.
How It Works
Developers submit a plate number and state via a simple REST API call. The request is routed to a licensed PI for manual fulfillment and returned within 1–2 business days, including registered owner name, current address, and vehicle make, model, year, and VIN. Permissible DPPA purposes supported include insurance claims, litigation, process serving, and repossession. Coverage spans 36 US states with a free tier available on RapidAPI.
