~ TUOLUMNE COUNTY - In response to the devastating TCU Lightning Complex fires that swept through the area in September, Governor Gavin Newsom has taken swift action to expedite recovery and rebuilding efforts in Tuolumne County. The governor issued an executive order today, aimed at streamlining the removal and cleanup of debris and hazardous materials from affected properties.
The executive order not only accelerates the cleanup process, but also ensures that public health and environmental protections are in place. This reflects Governor Newsom's commitment to addressing local concerns and providing necessary tools for communities to recover safely.
"We will continue to look for ways to support Californians impacted by the TCU Lightning Complex fires as they clean up and rebuild," said Governor Newsom. "This executive order directly responds to requests from local officials and community feedback, with the goal of speeding up recovery and protecting communities from hazardous materials."

The governor had previously declared a state of emergency in Tuolumne County following the fires, which allowed for additional state assistance under the California Disaster Assistance Act. This proclamation directed the Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) to work closely with county officials on debris removal and watershed recovery efforts, in order to prevent toxic burn scar debris from contaminating local waterways.
To aid survivors of the fires, a Local Assistance Center was established with support from the state. This center connected residents with critical services and resources for recovery. Additionally, Governor Newsom secured federal assistance through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), providing low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters, and small businesses looking to rebuild.
The executive order can be found on the governor's website.

In other recent news, Governor Newsom's actions have also led to significant progress in permit approvals for fire recovery efforts in Los Angeles. Through streamlining measures and executive orders, rebuilding permits have been issued at a rapid pace across the region.
Furthermore, California is investing nearly $150 million to improve access to healthcare for its residents. This funding will support local organizations in providing specialized services as part of the state's efforts to create a more inclusive and accessible healthcare system.
In addition, Governor Newsom has announced that a former CAL FIRE property in Riverside will be transformed into 209 affordable homes. The Mulberry Gardens Senior Apartments and Mulberry Gardens Family Apartments will provide much-needed housing for low-income families and seniors in the area.
Governor Newsom's dedication to supporting communities impacted by disasters and promoting access to essential services is evident through his recent actions. With his continued efforts, California is on the path towards a safer and more resilient future.
