~ Sacramento, California - On July 11, 2024, Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement honoring the fallen Vacaville Police Department Officer Matthew Bowen. The 32-year-old officer tragically lost his life while on duty today.

Governor Newsom and his wife Jennifer expressed their condolences to Officer Bowen's loved ones, friends, and colleagues. They also recognized the bravery of all law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day to protect their communities. The governor stated that Officer Bowen's service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Officer Bowen was fatally injured while initiating a traffic stop when he was struck by a vehicle. The incident is currently under investigation. He joined the Vacaville Police Department in June 2023 after previously serving as an officer with the Concord Police Department. He leaves behind his wife, two sons, parents, and brother.
