~ Sacramento, California - In a united effort to combat the ongoing climate crisis, Governor Gavin Newsom has joined America Is All In as its newest Co-Chair. This bipartisan coalition of state, local, tribal, private sector and non-profit leaders aims to cut emissions in half by 2030 and reach net zero emissions by 2050 while building resilience against the increasing impacts of climate change.
Governor Newsom will serve alongside Managing Co-Chair Gina McCarthy, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, and Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb. As the Co-Chair of America Is All In, Governor Newsom will work with leaders from all 50 states and across various sectors to develop and implement an ambitious national climate strategy.
In light of the current federal administration's lack of action on climate change, Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of subnational leaders stepping up to address this urgent issue. "With the all-out assault we're now facing on low-carbon, green growth from the federal level, it's the subnational leaders - those of us leading our states and cities - who have to step up," he stated.
As governor of California - the fifth largest economy in the world and a long-time leader in climate action - Governor Newsom is committed to continuing his state's efforts to reduce pollution and promote clean industries. "In fact," he added, "we're ramping up because it will take all of us to meet this moment."

Managing Co-Chair Gina McCarthy expressed her excitement about having Governor Newsom join America Is All In as a Co-Chair. "As governor of one of the largest economies in the world and a climate leader for decades," she said, "Governor Newsom will once again show America and the world that climate action not only cuts greenhouse gases but also creates jobs, new businesses, and innovative technologies that make our energy safer, healthier and more affordable."
The goals of America Is All In include mobilizing and partnering with subnational sectors across the country to develop and implement an ambitious national climate strategy, accelerating non-federal climate action, and promoting the leadership of non-federal and subnational actors on the world stage.
Governor Newsom's commitment to addressing the climate crisis is evident in his recent proclamation declaring March 19, 2024, as Nowrūz Day in the State of California. He also issued a statement in response to President Trump's executive order to eliminate the Department of Education, stating that "this overreach needs to be rejected immediately." Additionally, Governor Newsom has taken steps to preserve the ban on large-capacity gun magazines in California.
