~ Sacramento, California - In a move to honor the contributions and sacrifices of women in the military, Governor Gavin Newsom has declared March 17-23, 2025 as Women's Military History Week. This proclamation recognizes the resilience, bravery, and leadership of women who have served in every branch of the military throughout history.

The proclamation highlights the significant role that women have played in defending our nation since the Revolutionary War. It also acknowledges the barriers that these women have broken down, leading to their full integration into all military roles, including combat positions.

Governor Newsom specifically mentions the Women's Army Corps and the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion as forerunners in paving the way for women to serve in all areas of the military. He also recognizes individual servicemembers such as U.S. Army Sergeant Sagen Maddalena, silver medal winner in the 2024 Summer Olympics, Captain Sage Fox, the first openly transgender soldier to serve, and California's own CalVet Secretary Lindsey Sin.

The governor emphasizes that each servicemember deserves recognition and respect for their selfless dedication to serving our country. He also notes that diversity strengthens our armed forces and reaffirms his commitment to equal opportunities for all servicemembers.
