~ In a bold move, President Trump has ordered the deployment of 300 California National Guard personnel to Portland, Oregon, despite a federal court order blocking his attempt to federalize the Oregon National Guard. This decision has been met with strong opposition from Governor Gavin Newsom, who has announced plans to sue the Trump Administration for what he calls a "breathtaking abuse of power."
According to Governor Newsom, this deployment is not about public safety but rather about the President's desire for power. In a statement released today, he stated that "the commander-in-chief is using the U.S. military as a political weapon against American citizens." He also urged Americans to speak out against this "reckless and authoritarian conduct" by the President.
The California National Guard troops were originally federalized months ago in response to unrest in Los Angeles. However, these conditions have since subsided and there was no need for their deployment in the first place. The federal court ruling found no legal basis for their continued presence and ordered that control of the Oregon National Guard be returned to state command.

The judge appointed by President Trump who issued the ruling stated that this deployment goes against the nation's tradition of being governed by constitutional law rather than martial law. The court also found that the President's justification for deploying federalized troops was not based on facts and lacked good faith.
This news comes amidst other recent developments in California, including Governor Newsom's statement on the death of Chowchilla Police Officer Barrantes and his announcement of the first college graduation from Cal State LA for incarcerated women at the California Institution for Women.
In addition, Governor Newsom has signed several bills into law, including AB 5 which deals with official canvassing during elections and AB 94 which addresses recall elections.
As this situation continues to unfold, it is clear that tensions between Governor Newsom and President Trump are at an all-time high. The public can only hope that the rule of law will prevail and that the President's actions will be held accountable in court.
