~ Sacramento, CA - In a move to support economic growth and job creation in California, Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that the state will be investing $24.7 million in 65 apprenticeship programs across key industries. This is the second round of funding for the Apprenticeship Innovation Funding (AIF) program, which aims to provide Californians with the skills they need for good-paying jobs.
The AIF program focuses on creating earn-and-learn pathways in sectors such as healthcare, transportation, education, advanced manufacturing, information technology, and the public sector. This round of funding will support 8,270 apprentices who will have the opportunity to earn an average wage of nearly $32 per hour.
Governor Newsom stated that this investment is part of a bottom-up approach to ensure that Californians have access to the skills needed for high-demand careers in every region of the state. He also emphasized that these apprenticeships represent thousands of opportunities for individuals to jump into new careers and bring in higher wages for their families.
California has set a goal to serve 500,000 apprentices by 2029 and has already served 190,915 apprentices to date. The state continues to be a leader in registered apprenticeships.

The complete Economic Blueprint will be released early next year along with $120 million in funding for "ready-to-go" job-creating projects statewide within the next three years.
Katie Hagen, Director of California's Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), expressed her support for this investment stating that it reflects California's commitment to providing skilled talent for various labor sectors while also creating opportunities for individuals to train for high-demand careers and earn a paycheck.
