~ SACRAMENTO - In response to the devastating Franklin Fire in Malibu, Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Tuesday that California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This grant will provide vital resources to help suppress the fire and support the state's efforts in protecting lives and property.

The fast-moving fire, which started late Monday night near South Malibu Canyon Road and Francisco Ranch Road, has already burned over 1,822 acres and forced the evacuation of most of Malibu. With the FMAG, local, state, and tribal agencies responding to the fire can apply for 75% reimbursement of their eligible fire suppression costs.

Governor Newsom expressed his gratitude for this federal support and urged residents in affected areas to stay alert and follow evacuation orders. He also highlighted the tireless efforts of fire officials and first responders who are working to contain the blaze.

In anticipation of Red Flag fire weather conditions, which were deemed a Particularly Dangerous Situation by the National Weather Service, the Governor's Office of Emergency Services had already approved prepositioning of firefighting resources in Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, and Ventura counties on Monday.
