Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is continuing its efforts to support individuals experiencing homelessness by offering a 12th charitable giving opportunity for community members. This initiative aims to make a material difference in the lives of those facing homelessness.
Since 2023, the City has been organizing donation drives to collect essential items for people experiencing homelessness. These donations, totaling over 39,000 items, are distributed to individuals as well as partner organizations such as nonprofits and faith-based groups who serve the homeless population.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his gratitude for the community's support, stating that "donating an essential item is one small way you can make a big difference."
To continue this effort, the Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) will be hosting a donation drive-thru event on Saturday, July 27th from 9am to 1pm at the Health Department's Main Facilities Center. Donations received at this event will be distributed at the Multi-Service Center (MSC) and also made available to local partner organizations.
The City has provided a list of requested items for this quarter's donation drive. These include hygiene kits or house-warming gift kits from the Multi-Service Center Amazon Wish List, backpacks filled with essential items such as sunscreen and reusable water bottles, clothing in various sizes, pet care kits, welcome home kits with encouraging messages, and non-perishable food items.

In addition to the drive-thru event, donation drop-off bins are available at various locations throughout Long Beach including all open Long Beach Public Library locations during regular business hours. Bins can also be found at Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach and Scherer Park Community Center during specific hours.
Local organizations that support people experiencing homelessness can also request donations online. Since the donation efforts began in 2023, over 39,000 items have been collected with 22,500 distributed to individuals and organizations.
The City encourages people to follow @lbhealthdept and @longbeachcity on social media and use the hashtag #EveryoneHomeLB for updates on their efforts to reduce homelessness in Long Beach.
It is important to note that the City does not guarantee tax deductibility for any donations made. Donors are advised to consult with their tax professional and receipts of donations are available at all drop-off locations. The City remains committed to supporting those experiencing homelessness and encourages the community to join in their efforts.
