Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego is the seventh hospital in Southern California to partner with Discovery Arts' mission in bringing music, art, dance, costumes, photo keepsakes, trophy's and adventures to children who are patients at the hospital.
SAN DIEGO - Californer -- When you catch the first sight of Discovery Arts arriving in a children's hospital unit, you can't help but smile as they pass by. A parade of brightly colored Cast and Crew members carrying cart loads of art projects, colorful costumes, musical instruments, their Bedside Adventure Kits and Arts Adventures march into the hospital laughing, singing and encouraging all to join in the happy parade. Before you know it children are invited to join them for A Day in the Playroom, and have the opportunity to escape the harsh realities of medical treatment and into a world of imagination.
Discovery Arts is pleased to announce that their Arts Adventure Programs are now available at Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego. "We are very grateful to the Sahm Family Foundation for their generous partnership to bring Discovery Arts to the hospitalized children in San Diego and to be able to offer our programs to the children of San Diego, we are looking forward to reaching as many sick children as funding allows," stated Marilyn Clements, Discovery Arts' Executive Director, "All of Discovery Arts programs and services are free of charge to the hospitals, patients and their families. We rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations and fundraisers to survive and grow."

Discovery Arts currently serves over 3,500 children and their families each year. With programs at Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA, Miller Children's Hospital Long Beach, Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Center at Millers, CHOC at Mission, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, CHOC Children's Hospital, CHOC at Mission, and now the new program at Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego.
Discovery Arts was created in 1993 by a dedicated group of entertainment industry professionals who began volunteering their time and talents to bring music, dance, art and drama to children with cancer, serious blood disorders and life threatening illness while they are in the hospital receiving treatment. In recognition of the powerful impact of the arts on these children, Discovery Arts was formally incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1998 with a mission to expand the delivery of Arts Adventure Programs to many more children, and hospitals through out the United States.
Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego is a 524-bed pediatric care facility providing the largest source of comprehensive pediatric medical services in San Diego, southern Riverside and Imperial counties. Rady Children's is the only hospital in the San Diego area dedicated exclusively to pediatric health-care and is the region's only designated pediatric trauma center. In June 2019, U.S. News & World Report ranked Rady Children's among the best children's hospitals in the nation in all ten pediatric specialties the magazine surveyed.

All of Discovery Arts programs and services are offered free of charge to the hospitals, patients and their families.
