"Quality and patient safety are not separate from compassionate care. They are part of what makes excellent care possible," said Llamas. "As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I believe my responsibility extends beyond treating symptoms. We have to continually examine how our systems, processes, and decisions affect the people who trust us with their care."
Llamas said completing the Fellowship also strengthened his understanding of healthcare from a broader, global perspective.
"This Fellowship gave me a broader perspective on what it means to improve quality healthcare, not only for the patient in front of us, but across the systems and communities that shape their care," Llamas said.
Llamas' professional work spans psychiatric mental healthcare, nursing leadership, education, mentorship, advocacy, and public education. He is the founder of Mind & Heart™ and Mind & Heart Academy™, initiatives focused on mental health education, professional development, and supporting the next generation of psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners.
