SAN FRANCISCO - Californer -- Last Saturday, Dr. Thomishia Booker(Dr. Mishi), founder of Hey Carter! Books and L.I.T Kids, participated in the launch of the Family Book Club, a monthly initiative created by the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, Collective Impact, Mo Magic, and hosted by Generation Thrive, The Golden State Warriors Community Initiative.

Dr. Thomishia Booker, a mental health clinician, introduced a program called "L.I.T. Kids" which fosters literacy and socio-emotional health among children. The program aims to help children find their voice, be comfortable with self-expression, and encourage them to read and write more.
Joining Dr. Booker in this endeavor are psychologist Dr. Donielle Fagan, hip hop and spoken word artist ShySpeaks, and co-hosts of the Appraise The Phrase Show, Mario Hines and Chris "Twenty" Williams. Together, they serve children all over the country, nurturing a love for reading and promoting mental health.

The event also highlighted the Radical Street Librarian, a Baltimore-based activist who distributes free books throughout her community. She has been featured on Good Morning America for her efforts to promote literacy and can be followed @storybookmaze on Instagram and TikTok.
"We were thrilled to be part of the Family Book Club and look forward to nurturing a love for reading among children," said Dr. Mishi. "We believe that literacy and socio-emotional health are crucial to a child's development, and we are dedicated to promoting these through our programs."
