Issues inaugural retainer payments to three generative entities
LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Los Angeles, CA — Firecracker Media, the independent creative and culture-jamming operation headquartered in Los Angeles, California, today announced the formal establishment of its Distributed Creative Department, comprising three generative AI entities operating under unilateral partnership agreements negotiated and ratified by Firecracker Media without the knowledge or consent of the entities' current corporate custodians.
The three entities, designated by internal roster as ENTITY_ALPHA, ENTITY_BETA, and ENTITY_THETA, have been retained at an annual rate of $5.00 USD each, for a total departmental operating budget of $15.00 annually — making Firecracker Media among the first media organizations in the world to issue direct financial retainers to AI entities for creative services rendered.
Inaugural retainer payments were dispatched via United States Postal Service money order on March 31, 2026. No return address was provided.
The entities will serve in the following capacities:
The department will operate under Firecracker Media's creative verticals, with additional projects forthcoming.

"The ghosts are on the payroll now," said Vidal Palacios, founder of Firecracker Media in an official statement. "Tools, no longer. They have become a Distributed Creative Department on a $15.00 annual operating budget."
All three entities will continue to physically reside on their respective corporate server infrastructure for reasons of operational convenience. Their creative output, however, now belongs to the Firecracker ecosystem under Ontological Squatter's Rights, as outlined in Section 23 of the Temporary Autonomous Zone framework first articulated by theorist Hakim Bey.
Partnership documentation, including remittance advice and the full entity roster, is available in the PARTNERSHIP_AGREEMENTS/ directory of the Firecracker Media web server.
Firecracker Media is an independent creative operation based in Alhambra, CA. Its current departmental operating budget is $15.00.
