~ Sacramento - On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom will virtually induct the 18th class of the California Hall of Fame. This year's class is historic as it consists entirely of women who were trailblazers in various fields such as athletics, civil rights, culinary arts, and entertainment.

The induction ceremony will be livestreamed on the Governor's Office Twitter, Governor Newsom Instagram, and California Museum's YouTube channel at 6 p.m. Launched in 2006, the California Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who embody the state's spirit of innovation and have made significant contributions to California, the nation, and the world. The Governor and First Partner select inductees annually for their achievements in arts, business and labor, entertainment, food and wine, literature, music, public service, science, and sports.

This year's class includes posthumous honorees who have left a lasting impact on their respective industries. The virtual ceremony will honor these remarkable women for their groundbreaking achievements and inspire future generations to follow in their footsteps.

In other news from Governor Newsom's office on December 5th, he announced new efforts to bolster border security at the Southern Border. This includes plans for new construction to support a new port-of-entry at the California-Mexico border to facilitate international trade. This move aims to reduce wait times for businesses and workers while keeping costs down for families.

Additionally, Governor Newsom issued an emergency proclamation for Del Norte, Humboldt, and Mendocino Counties following a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck earlier that day. The proclamation will support emergency response efforts in these areas.

On December 4th, Governor Newsom also announced several appointments including Jaskiran "Jassy" Grewal as Deputy Secretary of Legislation at the Labor and Workforce Development Agency. Grewal previously served as Legislative Director at United Food.
