Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is excited to announce the reopening of renovated areas at El Dorado Park West and El Dorado East Regional Park. These improvements include major upgrades to the ballfields, infrastructure, visitor amenities, and accessibility. The community is invited to a celebration event on Monday, July 21 at 9:30 a.m. at El Dorado Park West (2800 N. Studebaker Rd.), featuring remarks from Mayor Rex Richardson, Fourth District Councilman Daryl Supernaw, and other city leaders. The event will conclude with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
According to Mayor Rex Richardson, these upgrades reflect the city's commitment to providing welcoming and accessible recreational spaces for the community. He believes that these improvements will bring people together and encourage them to stay active and engaged.
The recently completed El Dorado Park West Sports Fields Improvements were designed with the player and fan experience in mind. Upgrades were made to the ballfields including new fencing, netting, backboards, screening, dugout seating, and laser grading for infields. Pathway improvements were also made to better connect Field 5 and refreshments were added at Fields 5 and 6 with new paint, fencing, backstops, benches, sideline fencing, pads, and netting. Additionally, ADA accessibility was improved with upgraded parking stalls and repaved paths of travel throughout the park.

Other enhancements included in this project are gender-neutral restrooms stalls and a concrete pad around the parking lot entrance gate for easier access. Three water fountains were also replaced with hydration stations for visitors' convenience.
The El Dorado Park Paving, Wayfinding and Parking Improvements project also contributed to these renovations by resurfacing deteriorated roadways in El Dorado East Regional Park for safer driving conditions. Parking lots were also resurfaced and restriped while new directional signage was added for easier navigation.
Fourth District Councilman Daryl Supernaw expressed his excitement for the improvements, stating that El Dorado Park is home to various sports leagues and is a popular route for cyclists. He believes that these renovations will enhance the experience for all visitors and showcase the city's commitment to inclusive recreational facilities.
Funding for these projects came from various sources, including $10.2 million from California State Parks, $2.8 million in state funding, $1.2 million from Measure A, and $100,000 from the General Fund. These projects are part of Elevate '28, a five-year infrastructure initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access, and streets.
