SAN DIEGO - Californer -- Divine Feminine Publishing has issued an open call for submissions of short stories for its first Anthology: The Villains Club.
The Villain's Club invites both emerging and established writers to dive into the minds of delightfully devious characters. Authors are encouraged to find charm in the mundane from a Villains point of view.
"We're looking stories with a light, witty, or humorous tone. Think sass over slash, charm over carnage—clever, imaginative, and fun," said Dr. Janina Scarlet, founding director of Divine Feminine Publishing. "This will be an opportunity for writers to redeem, reframe, or just downright revel in villainy—without relying on gratuitous gore or real-world trauma."
As the publishing house is dedicated to empowerment, empathy, and equity, a minimum of 50% of the characters in all of its works must be female and/or gender diverse.
Examples of stories provided in the open call include: supervillains on a coffee break, henchmen unionizing, evil geniuses with imposter syndrome, fairy tale villains who just want a friend, and satirical or heartfelt takes on misunderstood "bad guys."
