LOS ANGELES, June 4, 2025 ~ Los Angeles, CA - HED, a renowned architecture and engineering firm, has recently announced the appointment of Roberto Vazquez, AIA, as the new Sector Leader for Housing and Mixed Use. With over 20 years of experience in adaptive reuse projects, Vazquez brings a wealth of expertise and technical leadership to one of HED's fastest-growing practice areas.
According to Otis Odell, AIA, LEED AP and Business Leader for Housing and Mixed Use at HED, Vazquez is a passionate advocate who has proven himself as a technical leader and creative thinker. He has a deep understanding of how to transform underutilized buildings into vibrant spaces for living, working, and community.
Throughout his career, Vazquez has been known for his definitive approach to adaptive reuse projects. From converting high-rise buildings in downtown LA to developing boutique hospitality and cultural centers, his work has consistently revitalized city cores while increasing access to housing and opportunities. Some of his notable projects include the Garfield Hotel, Singer Building, and Sears Landmark redevelopment.
Vazquez is also playing a crucial role in driving a renewed focus on housing resiliency and urban transformation across the nation. "Adaptive reuse offers a real path forward," he stated. "The current housing crisis coupled with the collapse of the office market and urgency for climate action calls for bold ideas. It's not just about buildings; it's about advocating for policy change, financial innovation, and design that serves people."
