Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach has launched a new initiative, the Housing and Homelessness Opportunities, Mobilization and Engagement (HOME) Community Roadshows, to engage residents in discussions about the city's efforts to prevent and address homelessness. Led by the Office of Homeless Strategy and Partnerships (OHSP), these events will bring together city departments, community-based organizations, and Long Beach residents to share updates, provide resources, and gather input on ways to enhance local systems.

Mayor Rex Richardson emphasized the importance of community involvement in addressing homelessness, stating that it is one of the city's most urgent priorities. "The Community Roadshows are a vital opportunity to meet residents where they are, build trust, and share how we are working together across departments and with community partners to create safe, supportive solutions for all Long Beach residents," he said.

The first HOME Community Roadshow will take place on Thursday, June 12th at the Doris Topsy-Elvord Community Center at Houghton Park. This event will provide an overview of the city's homelessness response systems and offer opportunities for community members to engage in dialogue about solutions. The event will also include free food, information booths, and interpretation services in Spanish, Khmer, and Tagalog.

According to the city's press release, these roadshows are part of a larger strategy to increase transparency and collaboration while ensuring that public input shapes policies and programs related to homelessness. In September 2024, OHSP hosted an open house event for the City's Homelessness Strategic Plan Update Initiative to provide opportunities for the community to learn more about progress made towards addressing homelessness in Long Beach.

The next HOME Community Roadshow is scheduled for Fall 2025. More information about future roadshows will be provided by the city at a later date. In the meantime, interested individuals can visit the Office of Homeless Strategy and Partnerships webpage or email OHSP@longbeach.gov for more information.
