~ At the June 3, 2025 City Council meeting, officials from the City of Long Beach gathered with local Green Business owners to celebrate the certification of seven new businesses and the re-certification of nine existing ones as part of the city's Green Business Program.
The Long Beach Economic Development Department (Department) has been leading this initiative since its inception in 2018 under the California Green Business Network. With a total of 90 certified businesses to date, the Program offers free certification to local businesses and nonprofits that demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his pride in recognizing these businesses for their leadership in sustainability and dedication to environmental values. He also highlighted how this Program reflects the city's efforts towards building a cleaner and healthier future, with these businesses leading the way.
Through technical assistance and support, certified businesses are able to implement measures such as energy and water conservation, pollution prevention, waste reduction, and community education. They are also re-certified every three years to ensure they continue to uphold best practices as laws and standards evolve. In addition, certified businesses receive marketing support and recognition through city and state platforms.

The newly certified businesses include Alder & Sage, Amarte, Creative Art Events, Pedal Movement (with two locations), Root & Branch Landscapes, and Urban Social Services and Advocacy. The re-certified businesses include Bowman Change, Elemental Mktg, Geosyntec Consultants, Heritage, Primal Alchemy Catering, Sacred Roots Holistic Healing, SomaticWise Therapy InsightOut, and Wheel Fun Rentals.
Bo Martinez, Economic Development Director for Long Beach emphasized how the Green Business Program is a prime example of how economic growth can go hand in hand with environmental stewardship. He commended these green businesses for making a significant impact in the community and encouraged more businesses to follow suit by making sustainability a core part of their operations.
The California Green Business Network, led by a coalition of cities and counties, is a pioneer in working with small to medium-sized businesses to promote a vibrant and healthy green economy. The Program contributes to creating livable communities with healthier environments while also conserving resources and saving money. In 2024 alone, California Green Businesses were able to reduce 37,986 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, divert or reduce 18,431 tons of waste, and conserve 106 million gallons of water.
