Long Beach, CA ~ The city of Long Beach, California is set to host four board events for the 2028 Olympic Games in the Olympic sport of Sailing. This announcement was made by the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28) today.
After careful consideration and with support from the International Olympic Committee Executive Board and World Sailing, LA28 has finalized the Sailing venue plan for the upcoming Games. The events will take place along the Belmont Shore coast in Long Beach as well as at the Port of Los Angeles. These locations were chosen for their favorable racing conditions and ability to provide an immersive and exciting experience for spectators.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement about Long Beach being chosen as a premier location for windsurfing and kite events, stating that they are ready to continue their legacy from hosting Sailing competitions during the 1984 Olympic Games. He also mentioned that they are eager to showcase their beautiful coastline to the world once again in 2028.
Sailing is set to feature 10 medal events for Men's, Women's, and mixed teams. For the 2028 Games, four board events will be held at Belmont Shore: Men's and Women's Windsurfing, and Men's and Women's Kite. Meanwhile, six boat events will take place at the Port of Los Angeles: Men's and Women's Dinghy, Men's and Women's Skiff, Mixed Dinghy, and Mixed Multihull.

Both Belmont Shore and the Port of Los Angeles are strategically located within LA28's larger Games Plan. They are expected to attract fans from all over the world with their reliable conditions, picturesque coastal backdrops, and thrilling competition atmospheres. By sharing Sailing across two locations, it will also provide more opportunities for communities throughout the region to experience this sport that holds great value within the Olympic Movement.
In addition to Sailing, Long Beach will also host other prominent coastal sports such as Beach Volleyball, Coastal Rowing, and Open Water Swimming. As a 2028 Venue City, Long Beach will stage the largest number of sporting events outside of the Host City of Los Angeles. They are set to host 11 events for the Olympic Games and seven for the Paralympic Games.
