SAN DIEGO - Californer -- Camino Chronicles Press and Karin Kiser announced the release of Before the Camino: Your Pocket Guide to Prepare Your Body and Mind for the Camino de Santiago, the third book in her series of pocket guides for the Camino.
More than 500,000 people walked or biked the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes last year. That number is set to surpass 600,000 in 2027, the next Holy Year. As interest in the Camino grows around the world, so too do concerns that the essence of this ancient pilgrimage route is being lost among the crowds.
Karin Kiser aims to change that with her book, Before the Camino. She explores the essence of a pilgrimage and addresses the deeper issues that compel people from all walks of life to the Camino de Santiago.
"The Camino has changed a great deal since I first walked it in 2011," Kiser explains. "It has become more commercialized and more digital, with tour groups, Camino apps, and cell phones virtually everywhere. My intention with this new book is to highlight what makes the Camino much more than a vacation or a bucket-list item."
