Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Airport (LGB) has recently announced that it has achieved its busiest summer ever, with over 1.1 million passengers passing through its gates between June 1 and August 31, 2024. This marks a significant 4% increase compared to the previous summer record set in 2018.

Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his pride in this achievement, stating, "This historic summer travel record is a testament to the hard work of everyone at our Long Beach Airport in providing unmatched service to travelers. Their dedication is why passengers place their trust in LGB as their preferred gateway in and out of Southern California."

The total number of travelers visiting Long Beach Airport during this period was 1,104,994, representing a remarkable 14% increase from the same time period in 2023. This growth far outpaced the projected industrywide growth rate of 6% for the season. This record-breaking total demonstrates LGB's significant recovery from the challenges of the pandemic, which saw only 111,437 travelers during the summer of 2020. The previous summer peak was recorded in 2018 with a total of 1,062,202 travelers.

We are thrilled to set a new benchmark and remain committed to providing an exceptional travel experience with the completion of our Terminal Area Improvements Program."

Currently, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest Airlines offer service to 24 nonstop destinations around the nation from LGB. This includes flights to Hawaii and marks more nonstop service than at any other time in LGB's 100-year history.

In addition to this impressive growth in passenger traffic, recent modernizations as part of LGB's $125 million Phase ll - Terminal Area Improvements Program have enhanced the overall experience for travelers. This includes the grand opening of the Historic Terminal, a historic landmark considered the crown jewel of the Airport campus, which reopened in July.

Located between Los Angeles and Orange counties, Long Beach Airport offers a uniquely stress-free journey and a first-class customer experience. With 24 nonstop destinations currently available, this is more nonstop service than at any other time in LGB's 100-year history. Monthly commercial passenger traffic reports can be found on LGB's website for those interested in tracking the airport's continued growth and success.
