Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Airport's Festival of Flight Returns for Grand Finale of Centennial Celebration

Long Beach, CA - The highly anticipated Festival of Flight is set to make its return to Long Beach Airport (LGB) on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024. This signature annual event is expected to draw thousands of attendees and will serve as the concluding celebration of LGB's yearlong 100th anniversary campaign.

Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement for the upcoming event, stating, "Festival of Flight is a rare opportunity for attendees to get an up-close look at Long Beach Airport. It's one of my family's favorite events in Long Beach and this year's grand finale for LGB's centennial festivities will be unforgettable."

The free and public event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the west end of the airfield located at 3590 East Wardlow Road. With an estimated attendance of 15,000 people of all ages, Festival of Flight promises to be a day filled with outdoor festivities.

Fifth District Councilwoman Megan Kerr shared her enthusiasm for the event, saying, "I'm thrilled to welcome the community to this celebration of our cherished 100-year-old Airport. LGB holds significant legacy in the aviation world and is a vital part of our community. This event honors its rich history and bright future, and I cannot wait to see everyone there."

Fourth District Councilman Daryl Supernaw also expressed his pride in the festival, stating, "Festival of Flight is an all-encompassing showcase of our historic Airport and our City's unique spirit. It has become a beloved tradition for many families and I'm proud that our community has the opportunity to gather on the airfield at LGB in such a meaningful way."

The award-winning event will feature static aircraft displays, children's activities, live music, food and beer trucks, helicopter rides for purchase, and performances by the Satin Dollz, DJ Dennis, and AbSOULute. Sponsored by the Port of Long Beach, the lineup of aircraft will include a KC-46 Pegasus, an air-to-air military refueling aircraft; the Flabob Express DC-3, with a storied history of flying Winston Churchill and the Royal Family; and a modified Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, the only operational L-1011 in existence. The Condor Squadron will also conduct two flyovers. Please note that all aircraft displays are subject to change.

Previously known as the Fly-In, Festival of Flight has been a tradition in Long Beach since 2013 when it was launched to celebrate LGB's 90th anniversary. This aviation-themed event has continued to raise awareness about California's oldest municipally owned airport, which marked its 100th anniversary on Nov. 26, 2023.

Airport Director Cynthia Guidry expressed her honor in hosting this beloved event at Long Beach Airport, stating, "We celebrate LGB's past and present at this event, inspiring aviation enthusiasts young and old."

Attendees are advised to bring water and wear sensible shoes as they will be outdoors rain or shine. Coolers will not be allowed on site and bags will be subject to search. While service animals will be permitted, pets are not allowed.

Free parking will be available at the corner of East Wardlow Road and Globemaster Way starting at 9 a.m. Alternate modes of transportation such as cycling, carpooling, ridesharing, and public transportation are highly encouraged. Bicycle parking will also be available on site. Overflow parking will be available at 3880 Kilroy Airport Way with free shuttle service to the event.
