Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach City Council Approves 50-Year Lease Agreement for $60 Million Aeronautical Development at Long Beach Airport
In a unanimous 8 to 0 vote, the Long Beach City Council has approved a 50-year lease agreement with Sky Harbour for a $60 million aeronautical development at Long Beach Airport (LGB). This decision was made after a competitive Request for Proposals process earlier this year.
The project, which will cover approximately 17 acres of land, is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the city. Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement about the project, stating that it will further strengthen Long Beach Airport's position as a hub for aviation activity and create hundreds of local jobs. He also sees Sky Harbour's investment as a vote of confidence in the city's future and its commitment to smart and sustainable development.
Sky Harbour, headquartered in White Plains, New York, was selected for its experience in aviation infrastructure development and its vision for creating best-in-class private hangar campuses. The company plans to construct state-of-the-art aircraft hangars for corporate jet tenants, a terminal and office complex, onsite parking with electric vehicle charging stations, and a publicly accessible open-air restaurant.

The development will take place on the west side of the airport at the terminus of Wardlow Road. This currently underutilized portion of the airfield will be repurposed to support Long Beach's broader economic and sustainability goals. It is estimated that the project will create and retain approximately 650 local jobs through construction, direct employment, campus operations, and related business services.
Fifth District Councilwoman Megan Kerr sees this project as an opportunity to revitalize the west side of the airport and benefit both aviation users and the surrounding community. She believes that Sky Harbour's plans will bring new life to the area.
Sky Harbour Chief Executive Officer Tal Keinan expressed his company's pride in partnering with Long Beach Airport and the City of Long Beach on this exciting new project. He also stated that their team is looking forward to investing in a facility that reflects the region's strong aviation heritage and economic vitality.

While the proposed development will be subject to applicable environmental review and approvals, Sky Harbour has a proven track record of operating similar aeronautical campuses across the country. The company is known for its commitment to high-quality, purpose-built facilities that serve both business and general aviation.
Long Beach Airport Director Cynthia Guidry believes that Sky Harbour's proposal aligns well with their vision of innovative aeronautical development. She sees this project as an opportunity to modernize underutilized space and strengthen the airport's position as an economic engine for the region.
This development marks another milestone in Long Beach Airport's continued investment in its facilities, ensuring that it remains a regional leader in aviation, innovation, and economic opportunity. With the approval of this lease agreement, Long Beach can look forward to a bright future for its airport and community.
