Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach City Health Officer Advises Residents to Avoid Consuming Recalled Raw Milk Due to Bird Flu Virus
Long Beach, CA - In light of a recent detection of the H5 bird flu virus in a retail sample, Long Beach City Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis has issued a warning to residents to avoid consuming voluntarily recalled raw milk. The affected milk may have been sold at various retailers in Los Angeles and could potentially be contaminated with the H5 bird flu virus.
The recall was initiated by The Raw Farm, LLC at the request of the state. The specific product being recalled is cream top, whole raw milk with lot code 20241109 and best by date of 11/27/2024 printed on the packaging. Customers who have purchased this product are advised not to consume it and to immediately return any remaining product to the retail point of purchase.
The recall was issued as a precautionary measure and so far, no illnesses related to this recalled milk have been reported. However, the Los Angeles Department of Public Health has identified multiple locations where the product has been sold, including one location in Long Beach: Vitamin City at 6247 E. Spring St.

As the investigation continues, additional retailers may be confirmed as having sold the affected raw milk. The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services will provide updates to the public if there are any further impacts locally.
Consuming or accidentally inhaling raw milk containing bird flu virus can lead to illness. Symptoms of bird flu infection in humans include eye redness or discharge, coughing, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, diarrhea, vomiting, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue, difficulty breathing and fever.
Anyone who has consumed these specific products and is experiencing these symptoms should immediately contact their healthcare provider. The Long Beach City Health Officer urges residents to take caution and avoid consuming the recalled raw milk to prevent any potential illness.
