Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is gearing up for an exciting and educational event to kick off Earth Month. The Department of Health and Human Services' Tobacco Education and Prevention Program, in partnership with the Office of Climate Action and Sustainability's Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program, is inviting community members of all ages to attend the Save the Planet, Be the Hero: Earth Month Kickoff Event on Saturday, March 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Admiral Kidd Park.
According to Mayor Rex Richardson, this event is not only about promoting environmental stewardship and raising awareness about the dangers of tobacco use, but also about building strong connections within the community. "We are committed to bringing people together to inspire action and create a healthier, more sustainable Long Beach," said Mayor Richardson.
The event promises to be fun for the whole family with interactive games, educational booths, and exciting giveaways. Attendees will have the opportunity to become environmental superheroes by taking action to protect the planet. Through hands-on activities, participants will learn how small actions like composting and properly disposing of cigarette butts can make a big impact on the environment and community health.

The Tobacco Education and Prevention Program has a dedicated mission of educating the community about tobacco use and promoting healthy, tobacco-free lifestyles. This program also addresses the impact of tobacco on the environment, particularly through cigarette litter as it is one of the most commonly littered items in the world.
In addition to promoting environmental stewardship, this event will also celebrate the launch of the Long Beach Climate Action Toolkit. This resource is full of helpful tips for residents interested in taking their climate hero training to the next level. The toolkit will be available on Monday, March 31 on the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program webpage and will also be distributed to participants at the event.
Those interested in attending can register ahead of time through the event's registration page; however registration is not required to attend. The Office of Climate Action and Sustainability's mission is to provide policies and programs that support local sustainability practices and create a more livable and resilient Long Beach. The Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program works towards this mission by bringing residents together through educational activities and local action, fostering connections to address community needs and promote environmental stewardship.
