Long Beach, CA ~ The City of Long Beach is proud to announce the return of the 5th Annual Vida Latina celebration series, taking place from September 15th to November 2nd, 2023. This event honors Latin American heritage through a variety of captivating events at all Library locations.
Mayor Rex Richardson commented on the importance of this event, saying "Programs like Vida Latina are instrumental in celebrating our diverse community and fostering a sense of belonging."
This year's Vida Latina will feature a mix of activities for adults, teens and kids, including Lotería and Cuentos y Cantos Storytime. Additionally, there will be innovative additions such as Amate Art, create your own Huipil garment, and the Mercadito Literario - a literary festival highlighting Latinx authors, vendors, performances and programming for the whole family. The Mercadito Literario will take place on Saturday October 7th from noon to 4 p.m. at the Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway).

The Library's website also includes 'Reflections of Long Beach,' which offers visitors an opportunity to explore the vibrant cultural history of Long Beach year-round. Director of Library Services Cathy De Leon commented on this event saying "Vida Latina is more than just a celebration; it's a bridge that connects us to the rich tapestry of Latin American culture and traditions."
The Library's Vida Latina celebration is generously supported by MemorialCare Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach, Friends of the Long Beach Public Library, and the Long Beach Public Library Foundation.
