Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Public Library and Dramatic Results Collaborate to Offer Free Arts-Integrated Workshop Series for Middle School Students
The Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) has once again partnered with Dramatic Results to bring back its SEED Creativity Lab, a free workshop series for 7th and 8th grade students. This program aims to inspire young minds by combining creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his support for the program, stating that it embodies the city's commitment to nurturing innovation and empowering youth. "By combining the arts and sciences, we're ensuring that Long Beach students have the tools they need to succeed in a creative, connected, and rapidly evolving world," he said.
The SEED Creativity Lab workshops will take place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon starting on February 1st until April 12th, 2025 (excluding February 15th). To make the program more accessible, each session will be offered simultaneously at five LBPL locations across the city: Billie Jean King Main Library, Burnett Neighborhood Library, Bret Harte Neighborhood Library, Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library, and Mark Twain Neighborhood Library.

Through SEED, students will have the opportunity to explore the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) through creative expression. Each Saturday session will focus on a different art form such as photography, digital arts, mixed media, improvisation, and architecture. With guidance from pre-service teachers from California State University Long Beach (CSULB), local art educators and LBPL staff members, participants will use design thinking to create unique works of art while developing critical thinking skills through collaboration with their peers.
Cathy De Leon, Library Director of LBPL emphasized that libraries are more than just books; they are spaces where young minds can come alive through exploration and creativity. "We are proud to host SEED Creativity Lab and continue providing opportunities for Long Beach students to learn, grow, and dream big," she said.
