Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Public Library to Upgrade Catalog System for Enhanced User Experience
The Long Beach Public Library has announced plans to upgrade its catalog system, with the goal of improving access to the library's collection and enhancing the overall experience for patrons both online and in person. The upgrade process is set to begin on Monday, Oct. 7 and will continue through Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024. The new and upgraded system is expected to go live on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
According to library officials, the upgraded catalog will function similarly to the current one but with added features that will make it easier for users to find what they are looking for. These enhancements include additional filter options for searches, the ability to create specific searches and lists, and the option to save them in their accounts.
During the upgrade period, most library services will still be available at all library locations. This includes checking out items as well as access to digital resources such as OverDrive, Libby, Hoopla, and Udemy. Other services such as library programs, computers, Wi-Fi, study rooms, and meeting rooms will also remain accessible.

However, there are a few services that will be temporarily affected during the transition period. Beginning on Oct. 7, no new hold requests for items will be accepted until the upgrade is complete. However, existing holds will still be fulfilled during this time. Additionally, from Oct. 14 onwards, no new items will be added to the catalog until the new system goes live.
From Oct. 28 through Nov. 5, there will also be a temporary suspension of certain services such as checking in materials or creating new library card accounts or processing payments. As a reminder, late fees are not charged by the library so patrons are encouraged to hold onto their checked-out items during this time and return them when the new system is up and running on Nov. 6.
For any questions or concerns, library patrons can contact the library's main line at 562.570.7500, email lbpl_reference@lbpl.org, or visit any of the library branches. More information on programs, events, and resources can also be found on the library's website at www.lbpl.org.
Media inquiries can be directed to Susan Jones, Manager of Automated Services, at 562.570.7500 or via email at Susan.Jones@longbeach.gov. The Long Beach Public Library is excited to bring these upgrades to its catalog system and looks forward to providing an enhanced user experience for all patrons.
