The council, now in its fourth year, is a vital space for young people to share their voices and ideas.
According to Mayor Rex Richardson, participating in the Youth Advisory Council allows local youth to make a lasting impact in Long Beach by driving positive change. "By participating, local youth will make a lasting impact in Long Beach by driving positive change and helping shape the future of our community," said Mayor Richardson.
To be eligible for the council, applicants must be between the ages of 16 to 26 and live in Long Beach. They must also be available to meet for two hours, two afternoons per month at various locations across the city. Additionally, applicants must have a passion for issues affecting youth in Long Beach.
The Youth Advisory Council is composed of representatives from all council districts, including at-large members dedicated to promoting health equity in neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by violence, poverty and adverse health outcomes. Members will receive a $50 stipend per meeting, up to $1,100 for a one-year term. They will also have access to coaching and development opportunities provided by City staff.
