SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Californer -- In William Walling's provocative new book "Memo to the Leader: a friend of the Reich," a dramatic change in history occurs when Germany wins the Second World War, thus presenting a modern-day scenario depicting the Nazis as victorious. Yet this result is due solely to the actions of opposing time travelers.
Former SS Officer Erich Lustmann is sent back in time from 1960 Argentina to 1939 Berlin armed with total knowledge of "familiar" WWII, his aim to "coach" a Nazi victory, reverse the war's outcome, and null the creation of a German global empire. American History Professor James Silverthorne of Goebbels Institut, formerly the University of Colorado on a parallel quantum timeline, is also sent back to 1940 as a last resort, his mission to eliminate Lustmann, or thwart his efforts before he can redundantly change history.
The two square off in this gripping thriller with the future at stake, one driven to Nazify the future, the other to negate that objective and the rise of a neo-Nazi empire. But can history be changed twice?
About the Author: A career aerospace engineer, William Walling spent almost three decades with Lockheed Missiles & Space Company in Van Nuys, California, and in the San Francisco Bay Area, then more years during the Desert Storm conflict with a Menlo Park flight motion simulator company. Later still, while employed as a technical journalist, he developed a hobby, avocation or what have you, writing the sort of narrative fiction he liked to read for pleasure. At first he wrote magazine short stories, novelettes, and science articles, and eventually two hardcover novels published by then-Doubleday & Company and by St. Martin's Press, respectively, both in what he favors calling speculative fiction rather than the overused generic term science fiction.
