Rent.Solar, a Minnesota based startup, has deployed one of our new solar-powered trailers to California in response to the devastating wildfires and power outages. For the last three weeks, our solar trailer has provided clean, renewable energy to hundreds of residents without power, and will continue to be stationed near the Bay Area to provide aid to the region.
SONOMA, Calif. - Californer -- Mobile Solar Startup Responds to California Wildfires, Power Outages
Nov 4, 2019
Rent.Solar (www.rent.solar), is responding to California to help residents affected by wildfires and power outages using rapidly deployable, clean energy. Rent.Solar offers mobile solar energy as a service for temporary events, off-grid power, and disaster relief.
The company was launched last June by Will Heegaard and Lee Feliciano, as the for-profit side of a "hybrid" organization, the other half being comprised of a 501c3 (not-for-profit) called Footprint Project (www.footprintproject.org) whose mission is to make disaster relief operations more sustainable, by providing clean, renewable solar power.

Since solar – particularly when paired with energy storage – still represents a significant investment, renting the solar trailers and solar shelters (tents) to festivals, film shoots and other outdoor events allows the cost to be shared by a variety of users, thus making it more accessible and affordable to those who need it the most (communities affected by disasters) on a temporary basis.
The Rent.Solar trailer is currently staged in the East Bay where it just returned from powering the Paradise Revival Festival (www.paradiserevival.com) which ironically, was threatened by power outages planned by PG&E. Most recently, the trailer provided power to over 100 users at Donaldson Way Elementary School in the City of American Canyon, Napa County. The trailer can provide a power source to local residents seeking to charge their medical devices, cell phones, laptops and other small appliances. Rent.Solar is working with partner relief groups to plan the trailer's next deployment. To follow the path of the trailer, follow us on social media.
