Lionsgate is going back to the early 1990s this summer, with help from Tyrese Gibson (known for the Fast & Furious franchise) and Snoop Dogg.
LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Michael Beasley is one of the stars of the movie, 1992, the feature film set during the Los Angeles riots that is being toplined by Tyrese Gibson, Scott Eastwood, the late Ray Liotta and Ariel Vromen (The Iceman) is directing the pic, which was written by Creed 2's Sascha Penn. The film was shot in Bulgaria and Los Angeles.
The pic is so titled in reference to the first night of the riots, which broke out following the not-guilty verdicts in the trial of four Los Angeles police officers who beat Rodney King. The plot centers on a custodian who brings his son to work and they find themselves in the middle of an angry mob after the verdicts.
Beasley, whose credits include Netflix's Reptile, Max's Rap Sh*t, and HBO's hit shows Winning Time and Ballers, will play an ex-LAPD captain, Joseph, who is now head of security for the Pluton Metals factory. He hires Mercer (Gibson) as part of the maintenance staff and both become caught up in the violence that ensues.

"It was an honor to work with the late Ray Liotta," says Michael, father of NBA star, Malik Beasley. "I was fortunate enough to watch him work and watch the choices he made for his role. Unfortunately, it was one of his final movie roles." When asked what the audience can expect from this movie, Michael replied, "The audience should expect to see an on-the-edge of your seat, crime thriller. The audience will also see the bond between father and son. In some ways it reminded me of the struggles I had to go through to help my son, Malik, make it to the NBA and how we bonded through the process. I wrote a book about our journey, to help others going through the same process. The book is selling on Amazon right now called, The Blueprint For Success Secrets: How To Live Your Dream From Amateurism To The NBA.
Lionsgate is distributing the film and Snoop Dogg has boarded the feature as executive producer through his Death Row Pictures production company. Maurice Fadida of Kodiak Pictures is producing as well, alongside Vromen, Adam Kolbrenner. 1992 is set to be in theaters nationwide on August 30, 2024.
Beasley, up next in the movies Signing Day and The Naked Gun reboot, is repped by Stewart Talent.
