LOS ANGELES - Californer -- "Freedom of the press belongs to those who own one"
"When You own a Media Outlet the only one who can fire you is you"
The figures on African American media ownership in America remain grim. That's particularly true with the pitiable lag in Black ownership of radio and internet program broadcast airtime. African Americans own a paltry four percent of all AM radio and Internet connected program streams in America. Political analyst and media commentator Earl Ofari Hutchinson says the lack of Black airwaves and program internet stream ownership has rendered African American listeners severely information deficit starved.
Hutchinson has taken a major step toward cracking the barrier of lagging African American media ownership. On December 3, he became an investor owner in a prime broadcast time block of airtime on KTYM Gospel Net radio, a subsidiary of KTYM broadcasting in Los Angeles. KTYM is one of the oldest Black programmed broadcast outlets in the country.

"My goal in broadcasting ownership to provide listeners with the latest, up to date news and views on hot button issues of concern to African Americans and listeners in general in airtime we control."
Hutchinson notes that declining Black media ownership even more of a crisis issue in the Trump era when media outlets are desperately needed to air Black views and concerns.
"Unfortunately, those views and voices are increasingly being drummed out and off the airwaves. The major reason is the continuing lack of and decline in Black airwaves ownership. The Hutchinson owned broadcast show is one answer to that."
