Not Just Tourists is diverting surplus medical supplies from landfill to disadvantaged communities and disaster zones using humanitarian travelers.

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. - Californer -- Saving surplus medical waste from landfill, and redirecting to those in need around the world, Not Just Tourists (NJT) is increasing its volunteer capacity around the US.

"Over 4.7 million pounds of surplus medical supplies go into US landfill every year, according to a 2020 report (Managed Healthcare Executive, July 30 2020)" said Carl Eaton, Director of NJT-Orange County, the largest of NJT's US chapters. That equates to 27 pounds per hospital bed in America per day! Imagine the impact on disadvantaged communities or disaster zones around the world if we could re-direct just a fraction of that?"

In service of this goal, NJT is pleased to announce the opening of yet another chapter, this time in Dallas, TX. Dallas is the fourth to open in 2023; joining Fontana CA, Menifee CA, and Denver CO. This almost doubles the number of chapters in one year carrying out humanitarian work.

About Not Just Tourists

Not Just Tourists collects donations of un-expired surplus medical supplies from hospitals, pharmacies, clinics, and individuals, that would otherwise be thrown into landfill due to US regulations. NJT packs those supplies into donated suitcases for delivery by travelers visiting developing countries. With a suitcase loaded with medical supplies, and a suitable recipient clinic at their destination, NJT makes it simple and rewarding for tourists to give back to the communities they visit. NJT also provides bulk medical supplies to support humanitarian missions and global disasters.

Through NJT, travelers and mission groups have delivered over 10,000 suitcases and over one million pounds of supplies and equipment.

NJT chapters are constantly searching for medical supplies providers, hospitals, clinics, and individual donations; volunteers to help collect pack and transport supplies and suitcases; and of course, travelers to deliver much-needed supplies around the world.
