LOS ANGELES, April 23, 2025 ~ Los Angeles, CA - Renata Simril, President & CEO of the LA84 Foundation, will be honored as the 2025 Woman of the Year by THE MUSES of the California Science Center Foundation. The annual luncheon, which will take place on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Jonathan Town Club in Los Angeles, celebrates women who are leaders and trailblazers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), business, or academia.
Renata Simril is a distinguished youth sports advocate and civic leader who has dedicated her career to making a positive impact on her community. As President & CEO of the LA84 Foundation, she has become a national leader in promoting positive youth development through sports. Her work focuses on creating opportunities for underprivileged youth to engage in physical activity and uplift their communities.

Simril's involvement with the California Science Center spans decades. She previously served on the Board of Directors as an appointee of Governor Jerry Brown and has been a driving force behind the Science Center's newest exhibition – GAME ON! Science, Sports & Play – opening May 15, 2025. She played a crucial role in shaping GAME ON! from its early concept and securing funding and partnerships to make it possible.
In addition to her work with the LA84 Foundation and California Science Center, Simril is also a respected advocate for the role of sport and play in children's well-being. She serves as President of the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to California's Advisory Council on Physical Fitness and Mental Well-Being. She is also a board member for organizations such as the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission and Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation.

The annual Woman of the Year luncheon is THE MUSES' major fundraiser, supporting youth education programs at the California Science Center. The proceeds help fund educational opportunities for children from underserved communities who are historically underrepresented in STEM fields. This includes scholarships to Hands-On Science Camp, Young Curators after-school programs, and Community Teen internships at the Science Center.
