San Francisco Department of Public Health and San Francisco Giants Join Together to Encourage All Eligible Residents to Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19

San Francisco, CA — The Department of Public Health and COVID Command Center announced a partnership today with the San Francisco Giants to get as many residents vaccinated against COVID-19 as possible. Beginning this Friday, June 25, people who get vaccinated at one of San Francisco's designated vaccination sites will receive two complimentary tickets for a Giants game between July and September, first come, first served, while supplies last.  The initiative is part of Major League Baseball's 'Vaccinate at the Plate' campaign; a national effort to increase national vaccination rates.

"San Francisco has led the nation in our effort to vaccinate our residents by making vaccines available, accessible, and convenient. While we're proud to have been the first major city in the country to administer at least one dose to 80% of our eligible residents, we're not going to slow down our efforts to reach each and every San Franciscan," said Mayor London Breed. "I want to thank the Giants for partnering with us to provide yet another reason for everyone to step up to the plate and get vaccinated."

San Francisco's reopening and recovery is, in large part, due to the effectiveness, availability, and successful rollout of vaccines, which have dramatically driven down case rates, hospitalizations, and community spread. Currently, 81% of San Franciscans eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination have received at least one dose; the first major city in the nation to reach this milestone. As of June 20, 72% of San Francisco's eligible population are fully vaccinated and 81% of those 65 and over are fully vaccinated. However, disparities persist with the percentage of Black/African American and Latinx populations receiving at least one dose standing at 57% and 69%, respectively.

"Every eligible person who gets vaccinated is making San Francisco safer for themselves and everyone else," said Dr. Grant Colfax, Director of Public Health. "We thank the San Francisco Giants for joining the Public Health Department, our health providers and our community partners as we work to vaccinate all of our residents. Those who are eligible that still need to get vaccinated should do so as soon as possible."

"While it is so encouraging to see the impressive vaccination numbers in San Francisco, the Giants and Major League Baseball are committed to doing what we can to encourage all members of our community to get vaccinated," said Giants President and CEO Larry Baer. "We hope we can entice them with the opportunity to attend a game at Oracle Park and a return to more normal times while prioritizing their health."

Beginning June 25, 2021, anyone receiving their first dose vaccine in San Francisco can receive Free San Francisco Giants Vouchers, redeemable for two tickets to selected games between July and September 2021, first come, first served, while supplies last, courtesy of the San Francisco Giants and Major League Baseball. There are no residency requirements to be eligible for tickets. Redemption information is provided on the voucher.

About the MLB Vaccinate at the Plate Initiative

Major League Baseball and its 30 Clubs are offering incentives to unvaccinated fans through a newly launched program called "MLB Vaccinate At The Plate," taking place throughout the month of June. Each of the 30 MLB Clubs, working with a local healthcare provider or a national pharmacy provider, will host or sponsor at least one event where unvaccinated fans will be able to receive free tickets to a game if they get a COVID-19 vaccine.  For more information about the program go to MLB.com/vaccine.
