LOS ANGELES - Californer -- In balloting on Wednesday, September 17, Dr. Sion Roy won the endorsement of the Santa Monica Democratic Club (SMDC) with a commanding 77.46% of the vote. That night's virtual meeting also set a club record for the most votes cast in its history. The previous Wednesday, SMDC hosted a candidate forum in which Dr. Roy laid out his vision for the district. Concentrating on lowering the cost of living, as well as shoring up the social safety-net and MediCal, Dr. Roy spoke about concentrating on the issues that would affect residents locally.
"I'm extremely grateful to have the trust of the members of the Santa Monica Democratic Club," said Dr. Roy. "After serving as President of the club during some challenging times, and witnessing how strong and resilient our members are-- especially with the vast impacts of the January fires on so much of the community-- I feel a great sense of responsibility to represent them well on the campaign trail. These are folks who care deeply about real, local issues, and I know they didn't take this vote lightly. Neither did I, and I'm proud to have their endorsement."

This comes on the heels of announcing the support of a sizeable majority of Santa Monica elected officials, both past and present. As the current Vice-Chair of the Santa Monica College Board of Trustees (and Board member since 2018), Dr. Roy has worked to bring new health focused workforce programs to SMC students, as well as leading the conversation on student housing, and he is proud of the work he has done with Santa Monica officials at all levels to bring positive change to the community.
