SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 28, 2025 ~ Teamsters Joint Councils 7 and 42 have officially launched Teamsters California, a statewide campaign aimed at advocating for good jobs, affordability for working families, and a future driven by workers rather than corporate greed and artificial intelligence (AI).
The co-chairs of Teamsters California, Peter Finn and Chris Griswold, emphasized the importance of standing up for working people in the face of increasing automation and job replacement by corporations. "Working people's sweat made us the largest economy in the world and our elected officials must never forget it," said Finn, who is also the President of Joint Council 7 in San Francisco.
Griswold, who serves as President of Teamsters Joint Council 42 in Pomona, California, echoed this sentiment. "We can create a California where there is both innovation and shared prosperity, or we can go further down the path of job elimination and the ensuing erosion of the great American middle class," he stated. "We know which choice we're making, and it's incumbent upon our political leaders to join us in fighting for workers."

Teamsters California wasted no time in getting involved in the upcoming 2026 election cycle. Next week, they will be conducting interviews with candidates seeking the union's endorsement for various offices throughout the state. This includes those running in the highly-contested race to succeed Governor Gavin Newsom.
In addition to their involvement in elections, Teamsters California will also be actively lobbying lawmakers to create sensible regulations for AI implementation. They believe that this technology can be used to benefit both innovation and workers' rights if properly regulated.
With a membership of over 250,000 workers across multiple industries, Teamsters California is a powerful force advocating for working people's rights and interests. For more information on their mission and initiatives, visit teamstersca.org.
