TVS Tavern TV Network is celebrating the early years of broadcast TV sports when the local tavern was the hub of viewing sports such as roller derby, wrestling, boxing, and bowling. More than 100 events from the late 1940's and 50's have been added
CANTIL, Calif. - Californer -- TVS Tavern TV Network, a 24/7 streaming FAST channel from the TVS Television Network, has added 100 vintage TV sports shows from 1948-1955 to celebrate the golden age of TV sports when the tavern was the hub of sports TV viewing. Pro Wrestling, roller derby, bowling, and boxing were the four top TV sports in the early days of TV and they are all featured in this package.
Pro wrestling from Hollywood and Pro Wrestling from the Dumont Network are new additions. Both feature colorful announcers who were not known for sports. Dick Lane was a noted Hollywood actor of the 1940's who played Inspector Farraday in the Boston Blackie movies. He also was a star in Columbia comedy shorts series that were highlighted by the Three Stooges episodes. Dumont wrestling was announced by a young Dennis James, who went on to a long and storied career as a TV game show host.

Pro Boxing added includes the Pabst Blue Ribbon Wednesday Night Fights. Early fights, including the 1949 Joe Louis Ezzard Charles championship fight, were announced by the legendary Ted Husing. Other Pabst fights were announced by Russ Hodges. Fighters in these shows include Willie Pep, Rocky Marciano, Joey Giardello, Art Aragon, and Carmen Basillio.
Roller Derby from the era featured original roller derby star of the 1930's Elmer Anderson on the mike. and a raft of legendary skaters including Gerry Murray, Tuffy Brashun, Buddy Atkinson Sr, Nick Skopas, and Gene Gammon.
